Subjects and timetable

Azbuki School is an innovative school approved by the Ministry of Education and Science with license No. 12345

In the primary and middle school levels, we follow the national curriculum, building on the mandatory number of hours with additional, targeted exercises and self-prepartion for better results upon completion of the respective educational level.

Bulgarian Language

In Bulgarian language classes, we focus on developing children’s literacy, written and linguistic culture, richness of speech, the ability to think critically, reasoning through problems, and expressing personal opinions. Reading is encouraged through a variety of school projects, library sessions, and meetings with Bulgarian authors of children’s books and novels.

Mathematics

Additional classes support mathematics education by reinforcing exercises and mastery of the curriculum. To achieve higher results, teachers provide a wide range of supplementary materials, aiming for children to fully understand and apply concepts. Students are further motivated to demonstrate their skills through participation in various mathematical competitions. For our most enthusiastic mathematicians, we offer clubs in Mathematical Logic and Competitive Mathematics. Many of our students have won awards.

Social and Natural Sciences

Social and Natural Sciences play a key role in students’ education. Lessons are designed to spark interest through interactive teaching, visualization, experiments and project-based activities, often integrated with other subjects. Emphasis is placed on developing critical thinking, understanding cause-and-effect relationships, and interpreting events and phenomena. Our teacher led historical/scientific field trips for all grade levels are highly engaging and bring learning to life.

Art

At Azbuki School, we believe creativity is an essential component of a complete education. Our curriculum includes creative classes where children can freely express their imagination and ideas. In a supportive and warm environment, students build confidence, self-esteem, aesthetic appreciation, and teamwork skills while showcasing their individuality through colors, shapes, and artistic concepts.

Art classes often expand into thematic workshops inspired by different periods in art history. Students also engage in interdisciplinary projects that reinforce academic content through hands-on, creative application.

The school’s holiday calendar provides a stage for theatrical and musical performances, further nurturing artistic potential. Students may participate in additional art studios, join a vocal group, act, or take individual music lessons. Our long-standing partnership with the Artissimi Theater Academy enriches these opportunities, bringing professional expertise and inspiration to our classrooms.

Sports

Sports play a vital role in the upbringing and development of well-rounded, physically fit individuals. Through physical activity, children channel their energy while strengthening both body and mind. In primary school, students practice elements of team sports such as volleyball, basketball, and football daily. Physical exercises promote teamwork, foster a competitive spirit, and build determination.

Mandatory sports classes for grades one through four also include swimming lessons, while older students can use the swimming pool through optional sports modules. Beyond the curriculum, students have access to a wide range of additional sports activities tailored to their interests.

Information Technologies

From the first grade, students explore information technologies through hands-on, practical lessons. They are introduced to digital tools and applications that support learning and help build fundamental computer skills.

Classes are age-appropriate and designed to foster creativity, logical thinking, and independence. Students learn to work with text documents, presentations, educational games, and interactive platforms, preparing them for active participation in the digital learning environment.

Technology and Entrepreneurship

In technology and entrepreneurship classes, students develop both practical skills and social responsibility. Lessons include social entrepreneurship projects, where children create handmade products for presentation at the Christmas and spring school bazaars.

Funds raised are used for charitable purposes—supporting students, improving the school environment, and contributing to broader community initiatives. Through these activities, students acquire business skills while also learning empathy, teamwork, and social responsibility.

Virtues, Personal Development, and Civic Education

Azbuki Primary School was among the first in Bulgaria to introduce the subject of Virtues into the official curriculum in the 2017/2018 school year. Our teachers are authors of teaching aids for this subject at the primary level.

Virtues classes provide a unique learning experience: through personal examples, stories, fairy tales, and role-playing, children explore essential principles for human relationships, conflict resolution, and moral values such as respect, empathy, compassion, perseverance, and hard work. These classes promote personal growth and foster a healthy school community.

In middle school, the curriculum evolves into personal development and civic education, expanding topics to include civil rights and responsibilities, healthy lifestyles, ecological awareness, and intercultural understanding—preparing students to become active and responsible citizens.
